Not once during the entire day were my Miranda rights read to me, was I told if I could leave or why I had to be detained at Vermont and K, and I was not told on what charge I was arrested until AFTER I got out of juvie. All day long I was in complete disbelief at what had happened. People got FBI files, police records, and bruised ribs for nothing more than expressing their constitutionally guaranteed right to free peaceful assembly.

As protesters succeeded in shutting down DC this past Friday, it's interesting to note that it was in no small part due to the hysteria whipped up by the DC police department.

Within 45 minutes to an hour, however, protestors who thought that the park was a safe space found that, safe or unsafe, it was the only place they could be. Police in full riot regalia, including about 20 on Pennsylvania Ave. on horses, had the protestors, and everyone else who happened to be in the park at the time, surrounded.

The crowd chanted "We want to leave peacefully," but did not find a response. As the standoff entered the second hour, every move by the protestors resulted in a further closing of the circle and the arrival of more officers of the law.
