Anti-Capitalist Convergence - Washington, DC

IMF/World Bank Protests - Sept 2001 - Welcome Center Information

The Anti-Capitalist Convergence Welcome Center will serve to disseminate information on our week of convergence spanning from September 24th to October 1st. For information on protests, actions and events, skillshares, various workshops or meetings check out the information booth within the Welcome Center. Staff at the Welcome Center can also assist you with finding housing, directions, legal and medical contacts and other necessary information pertaining to the week of convergence in DC.

Workshops and skillshares will take place within the Welcome Center, as well as meetings of the Anti-Capitalist Convergence and related groups and discussions.

We ask that you keep the following things in mind while at the space:

-If the police or other authorities knock, know what to do. Observe legal postings in the building and call the legal number. Report even the slightest harassment to the legal collective. Reporting this information can help in taking the steps in preventing police raids or the space being shut down.

-Please do not hang out here when you don't need too. This space is already a target of the authorities because of the politics of the ACC. We don't want to increase the chances of a raid by having unneeded activity around the space. We do welcome you to attend all events at the Welcome Center and at the training and meeting spaces within, as well as to utilize any information inside as well.

-Please do not store any of your personal belongings here. Because of the political nature of the Convergence, your things are just not safe here as the space is subject to police repression and harassment.

-Be smart and respect the space. Please do not bring drugs or alcohol or other things inside that could be detrimental to the space. If you see anyone vandalizing the space or doing anything that could put the space or individuals at risk, let them know the danger they are creating and try to solve the problem. Don't assume someone else will take care of it but at the same time feel free to ask anyone, especially space volunteers for assistance. It's up to all of us to look out for each other and protect this space.

-If you see anyone writing on the walls or doing graffiti, try and stop them. The people renting us the space will not be happy about it and we will have to clean it up.

-Feel free to make a donation to the ACC to pay for this space. A local community organization has been kind enough to rent us their space for the week. The money will go to benefit some of the work they do in the Latin American Arts community in Mt. Pleasant.

Our General Hours during the Convergence will be from 10am - 9 or 10pm from Monday, September 24 - Monday, October 1. Check notices, as times may vary from day to day.
