Halloween Party and Zombie March to Protest FTAA Meetings in Ecuador
Thursday, October 31st, 2003 at 5:00 pm, at the U.S. Trade Rep's Office, 600 17th St., NW (between F & G Streets)
The Mobilization for Global Justice (MGJ) and the DC Anti-Capitalist Convergence (ACC) are planning a Halloween bashing of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) starting in front of the US Trade Representative's office. This event will coincide in solidarity with massive protests in Quito, Ecuador, where FTAA negotiations are scheduled for October 31st November 2nd. The FTAA is a proposed expansion of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to every country in the Western Hemisphere, excluding Cuba. NAFTA has benefited unaccountable transnational corporations, at great expense to people and the environment.
But the spell is being broken. From Enron to Argentina this so-called free market system is dying - but like an undead zombie it continues lurching blindly forward wreaking havoc. Together we can unmask this monster free trade agreement, shine a light on the bloodsucking vampires, and send corporate greed to its grave!
We'll rally at the USTR, then slither through the city in a festive ZOMBIE March to show that Capitalism is dying, and that we're taking the streets to take the FTAA to it's grave! - we are encouraging everyone to dress like ZOMBIES. Wear a costume, paint your faces, bring flags, banners, drums and noisemakers, come prepared for a festive protest. The dead will rise to wake the world, to spook the war makers and make resistance visible.
What you can do: Come dressed as a zombie on the 31st! Bring banners, and signs, to make our resistance visible and clear! Spread the word about the horrors of the FTAA!
