Black Bloc Call to Action - March 2002
Their war draws closer. Media pundits gloat, oil companies await in eager anticipation, politicians on all sides trample over each other to use the war for their own ends. But resistance is growing too. Millions of people, in hundreds of cities across the world are taking to the streets. The time has come for unpermitted action. After all, is the Bush administration going to war with permission from the UN?
From here there are many ways we can go. We can fall into the spectacle of respectable protest, where we blindly follow the bureaucrats on the left. We can bear witness to atrocities without doing anything to directly stop them, and make urgent pleas to our governments and exploiters to stop war. Or we can push things further. We can organize ourselves, take initiative, be creative, take militant action. This could be the beginning of a movement that could cause enough trouble for the American empire, that it can't expand by killing people. This could be the beginning of something much better than the current global capitalist nightmare.
On Saturday, March 22, all anarchists, socialists, communists, workers of the world, students, and any supporters will band together to form a black bloc of one. We will be meeting at Bryant square park at 11:30 (42nd and 5th Avenue— look for the black flags). From there, we will march to the main rally at 42nd and Broadway. It's time to escalate our actions as Bush and his warmongers are escalating theirs! We are planning a breakaway march to a symbolic location (TBA at meeting point. Decisions made strictly through consensus) where we will have non-violent civil disobedience or a sit-in. Once again, all decisions will be made through consensus.
Remember to come in black and bring your masks as we are to be a black bloc of one, showing solidarity, unity, and equality, but most of all symbolic anonymity and anonymity to the police who use video and photo cameras to document protests and protesters.
