at the Brian MacKenzie Infoshop
1426 9th Street NW, Washington, D.C.
(near the Shaw/Howard University metro on the Green Line)

On September 1-4 of 2008, the Republican Party is coming to Minnesota to celebrate their latest conquests in global domination and exploitation. Let’s make sure that this time the fear-mongers will be met with their own biggest fear: people mobilized, organized, and taking the future back into their own hands.

Join experienced local activists, organizers from the Twin Cities, and other curious folk in a discussion about how activists in DC can begin to organize resistance to the Republican National Convention.

A discussion about the importance of organizing direct action and mass protest against the Republican National Convention, as relevant to important movements and issues in the election year. Speakers with direct action mobilization-organizing experience will discuss issues of climate change, war and militarism, and borders and migration in relation to staging direct action against the RNC.

Following the discussion, the RNC Welcoming Committee from the Twin Cities and Unconventional Action will present information regarding the organizing that is being done in preparation for the September mobilization against the Republican National Convention

Short videos from past protests at political party conventions will be shown as well.

Featuring:

Groups Organizing to Crash the Convention:

  • The RNC Welcoming Committee, a Twin Cities based anti-authoritarian body organizing logistics for this fall’s convergence against the RNC in St. Paul.
  • Unconventional Action, an emerging network whose goal is to build a horizontal, inclusive framework for protests that will disrupt the upcoming Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

Speakers on Important Issues in this Election Year:

  • Rami El-Amine, of Left Turn DC and local Palestine solidarity activist will speak about issues of war and militarism in the election year.
  • Nadine Bloch, of Oil Change International and No War No Warming will speak about climate change and the importance of direct action.
  • Javier Gallardo, of Tenants and Workers United will speak about borders and immigrant rights.
