What is this Different Kind of Dude Fest?

DKDF is about good music minus the often self-destructive, sexist dudedom
that comes along with many a music fest. And DKDF is about possibilities
for change and growth, as one organizer says,

“Different Kind of Dude Fest is about creating a safe, inclusive space
where people feel like they can learn, grow, discuss, and have a positive
experience. Different Kind of Dude Fest is a place to learn about yourself
and how to deal with the issues that go along with living in a misogynist,
patriarchal society”

And DKDF is about raising funds to support the great work of the following
organizations:

* HIPS (Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive)
HIPS’ mission is to assist female, male, and transgendered individuals
engaging in sex work in Washington, DC in leading healthy lives.

* UBUNTU
UBUNTU is a women of color and survivor-led collective based in Durham,
North Carolina, USA, where community members are breaking the silence
about sexual assault and racist violence as part of a long struggle
against racism, classism, sexism and all forms of oppression.

secondary survivors and creating community strategies for supporting
survivors and holding perpetrators accountable. It will be fun and kick
ass!

Cum As You Are: masculinity, male bodies and positive sexual
relationships

Even feminist punks live within and reinforce patriarchy. This
experiential workshop will center male bodies and male voices to help us
discover the ways we reinforce and are hurt by our learned sexual
behaviors. We’ll also make space to learn about and develop new practices
for ourselves around intimacy and sexuality, and share information about
sexual and reproductive health.

AND (go to one and send a friend to the other)

Challenging Gender Oppression through Anti-Sexist Men’s Groups

Participating in a men’s group can be an effective and transformative way
for men to challenge gender oppression in ourselves and our communities.
These groups can take many different forms, and this workshop will
introduce participants to some existing groups, including Men Against Rape
Culture (Durham, NC) and the Philly Dudes Collective, and discuss many of
the issues involved in starting and participating in them.

Among the challenges we will explore are: How do we find other men who are
interested? What activities should the group undertake? How diverse
should our group be, in which ways? How do we define who counts as a
“man”? How can we deal within the group with differences in identity and
experience? How do we create a shared analysis or political framework?
What does accountability look like for our group? What resources exist
for male anti-sexist individuals and groups?

This workshop is open to all, but primarily aimed towards male-identified
folks.

4:45-5:30pm

Puppet Show on Consent and Sexual Relationships!
